Advocate to your legislators for the issues your local and state League of Women Voters are supporting this legislative session.

About this Event

We’ve set up this special day for you to make appointments with your state of Indiana senators and representatives. It's a great opportunity to talk to them about the issues most important to you in the upcoming legislative session. Even if you can’t set up an appointment, come and network with other Leaguers and State League Advocates.

This year the General Assembly will be honoring the winning of women's right to vote, our 19th U.S. Constitutional Amendment. Be a part of this historic commemoration! The recognition begins at 9:00 AM with a Welcome by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch on the 3rd floor, South Atrium.

At 10:00 AM, the Indiana House Session will present a Joint Resolution honoring the 100-year anniversary of Indiana ratifying the 19th amendment.

Pick up talking points and other available literature and see how you can most effectively promote the League’s positions as well as your local issues at 10:30 AM, State Library. As you well know, redistricting reform is our top priority and we will do everything we can to make that happen. But it’s by no means our only concern. There’s also a lot of work that needs to be done on other issues which include voting rights, gun safety, women’s health, the natural resources and education.

The History Reference Room at the State Library (Room 211) will be our main gathering spot and we’ll have lunch for you after 11:30 AM. We’ll be there from 10:00 until 2:00 to network and get feedback about your experience.

At 1:30 PM, the Indiana Senate session will present the same Joint Resolution honoring the 100-year anniversary of Indiana ratifying the 19th amendment.

Begin to contact your legislators anytime now to arrange your visit. You’ll want to consider dressing professionally and wearing white, if possible to identify yourself as a Leaguer. We will have supplies for making your own Votes for Women sash at the State Library. Stop by to make one for yourself when you have a chance. We want to make the League’s presence an indication of our dedication and power.

Is there anything special I should know to set up my appointments with my representatives?

No. Just call the office of the legistator you want to see. Be persistent. The time and length of your meeting is between them and you. We'll be at the State Library from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm but your appointment can be at anytime during the day. If you are confused who your legislators are, here's a link that will give you the information you need:

I only have time to see my representatives and cannot make it to the State Library to network. Do I still need to pay $15.00?

No. The $15.00 is a donation that covers our costs at the State Library.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The Statehouse is just a little over a block from the State Library so that is an easy walk. Close-by parking can be an issue in that the legislature will be in session and parking is restricted in the immediate area but there plenty of parking in Downtown Indy.

Will there be vegetarian and special diet lunches available??

Yes. Please email to request a vegetarian lunch or if you have any special dietary needs.

May I bring friends who do not belong to the League?

Yes. Just be sure they understand that the League is a non-partisan organization and we do not support any individual party.
