Learn to communicate essential information about OneVirginia2021 and redistricting reform. Our featured speaker will be Brian Cannon, Executive Director of OneVirginia2021. As an attendee you will 1) Deepen your knowledge about Virginia's gerrymandering history; 2) Be able to identify the key concepts about gerrymandering; 3) Write, hone, and practice short speeches about Virginia's redistricting reform; and 4) Build confidence to speak knowledgeably about redistricting reform. 1:15 - 1:30 Check In

1:30 - 1:45 Introductions and Orientation to the Workshop

1:45 – 2:15 What is Gerrymandering 101: Brian Cannon, Executive Director of OneVirginia2021 will share his knowledge of redistricting reform in Virginia, where we are, and where we need to go.

2:15 – 3:15 Finding our New Talking Points: We will use this session to collectively figure out the essence of our message now that the constitutional amendment has passed for the first time. Brian will talk us through a range of ideas and we will have a chance to respond and tell him what we hear and what rings true.

3:15 - 4:00 Creating Your Gerrymandering Speech: You will work in small groups to identify key ideas that need communicating. You will then develop a personalized 20 - 30 second elevator speech or a 2 - 4 minute elevator speech.

4:00 - 4:15 Group Sharing

4:15 - 4:30 Feedback

Please bring paper and pen/pencil to use for taking notes and developing your speech. Snacks will be provided.
